Sketching thoughts
Lecture and discussion
May 11 at 6.45pm.
Marcia Sá Cavalcante Schuback, Professor in Philosophy, Södertörn University
Gittan Jönsson, artist
Jockum Nordström, artist
Lise-Lotte Norelius, musician
Throughout her artistic career Gittan Jönsson has been sketching her life; domestic chores, life’s joys and its fears. Gittan Jönsson has also produced several comic books dealing with political and societal matters. Jockum Nordstrom, an artist from a younger generation, has become known for working with an aesthetic of sketching and comic book aesthetics and a imagery. The comic strip has associations with childhood matters, perhaps even with a sense of naivety, but is in both artists’ hands turned towards big matters and difficult issues.
In our culture there is an underlying paradigm that the written word conveys truth, whilst the drawn image is tinged with fiction. The philosopher Marcia Sá Cavalcante Schuback challenges in her book Att tänka i skisser this paradigm, and propose to see the image as the essence of truth, not subordinate to the philosopher’s words. In a lecture, followed by a conversation, Marcia Sá Cavalcante Schuback discusses with the artists Gittan Jönsson and Jockum Nordstrom about thinking through sketching.
During this evening the musician Lise-Lotte Norelius will do a vacuum cleaner performance.
The lecture will be in Swedish and is included in the admission price 50 sek.
