The park

Marabou was established in Sundbyberg 1916 as a subsidiary of the Norwegian company Freia chocolate. In the 1930’s Marabou was offered to buy the adjacent plot from the City of Sundbyberg, on the condition that the public was to have access to the park that was being planned on the site for the company’s employees.

For eighteen years, between 1937-1955, renowned landscape architect Sven Hermelin worked on the park. His main influences were Freias plant in Norway and the British chocolate company Cadbury’s manufacturing plant in Redcliff. Both Marabou’s director Henning Throne-Holst and Sven Hermelin shared ideas about how nature, architecture and art could help counteract the adverse effects of urbanization and industrialization.

The Marabou Park was as elected Sweden’s most beautiful park in 2008.
