School program

Our school program offers a wide range of activities aimed at all age groups, regardless of prior knowledge or needs. In addition to exhibitions and workshops, there is also the opportunity to enter into longer and shorter collaborative projects. School classes and groups are always welcome to visit the park and the art gallery on their own.

At Marabouparken konsthall, we see pedagogy as an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences, where everyone – student and teacher – can learn something new. With keywords such as curiosity, care and openness, we welcome all groups to discover the world anew through art.

Self-guided visit

All classes are welcome to visit our exhibitions and the sculpture park free of charge and on your own. However, visits to our ongoing exhibitions should be pre-registered by emailing Henning, the education manager, to avoid crowds. You are always welcome to contact Henning if you want to work on a special project; then the content of the displays and workshops can be adapted.

Marabouparken’s sculpture collection

Marabouparken’s sculpture collection consists of 16 sculptures by Swedish and foreign artists created between 480 BC and 1973. The park combines classical Greek sculpture with abstract sculpture and sculptures created in widely different artistic styles such as naturalism, concretism and cubism. A display focusing on the sculptures in the park where students get an overview of different artistic styles and learn more about the artists behind the works, but also hear about the myths and stories behind the sculptures.

Preschool tour in Marabouparken

We look at the sculptures in the park and hear about the myths and stories behind the different sculptures. Is it important that what you sculpt looks exactly like it does in reality? We talk about different ways of sculpting and go on a journey of discovery among different styles. Once upon a time there was a nursery, an early form of preschool, in the park. The pavilion that housed it still stands and just like the children of that time we also try to climb on some of the sculptures and play hide and seek in the park.

Target group: preschool
Duration: 45–60 min

Workshops

The Limits of Language

In an experimental workshop we will explore the depth and breadth of language through the tools of art. In different materials, language is created that is not only spoken or written, but also seen, felt and experienced. What happens when words are not enough?

Target group: grades 6–9 and gymnasium
Duration: 60–120 min

The Wordless Language

Participants explore the possibilities of language through sound, form and movement. First, individual “fragments” are created – abstract paintings, small sculptures, sounds or movements – personal symbols. Then, the fragments are assembled into a common work of art – a wordless language.

Target group: grades 4–6
Duration: 60 min

Textile Stories

New stories are created using fabric and yarn. By combining colors, textures and simple techniques, textiles are explored as a language. The workshop develops children’s ability to express themselves visually and tactilely, while exploring new ways of communicating.

Target group: preschool and kindergarten
Duration: 60 min

Marabouparken konsthall’s pedagogy manager Henning Rehnström Ring guides the students through the expressions and ideas of contemporary art, based on the modernism of the sculpture park. In the workshops, the students experiment and analyze their own creative process through different artistic techniques.
