What is Dance for Parkinson?

Dance for Parkinson is a method and a tool for training and dancing with people who have Parkinson’s disease.

The method was developed in the USA by the Mark Morris Dance Group, and in the method, professional dancers, choreographers, and dance educators teach. The Ballet Academy supports the Dance for Parkinson’s network, and holds dance classes by trained Dance for PD educators.

Research shows that dance has very positive effects for people with Parkinson’s disease, and other neurological diagnoses such as stroke and MS. Dance develops the brain and body’s motor skills, builds self-confidence and joy of life.

In dance, we work with imagination, creativity, self-expression and joy. Everyone should feel welcome in the world of dance. We use different music and dance styles, we play with rhythm and pulse, the aesthetic expression and feel beautiful and strong. With dance, we train balance, rhythm, dynamics, coordination, strength and fitness. With us, you are a dancer!
