Art Summer Camp 2025

Painting as Memory – Art Workshop

Can a color carry a memory? Can a place be felt through a painting?

For three days, artist Sofia Heinonen invites you who are 14–18 years old to an in-depth workshop where we explore the power of painting – as language, as presence, as a way of understanding both ourselves and the world around us. We work in both inner and outer environments and let memories, bodies, light and time become part of the process.

Using experimental exercises – repetition, limitation, movement – we test the possibilities of painting to capture what cannot be said outright: a mood, a moment, a change.

You do not need any prior knowledge. Just the will to be present, to let go of control for a moment – and follow along into the borderlands of color, memory and movement.

Previous camps this summer

Another world – Monster Club Art Camp

Welcome to an exciting camp where we work with images, text and sound together with artist Michael Bekele. For three days we build new worlds; we paint a large shared landscape, invent fairy tales and poems about its creatures, figures and plants – and record all the sounds of the place: whispers and shouts, winds and waves, voices and music. Together we set out on adventures where our imagination and thirst for discovery show the way. Another world is possible – come and create it!

Unknown Languages – Monster Club Art Camp

How does language actually come about? Is it possible to create something completely new through art? For three days, artist Hannah Wiker Wikström invites you between the ages of 10–13 to explore language as form, color, rhythm and relationship.

We start by creating our own alphabet – sounds, signs and symbols that emerge in community. The alphabet then guides us further in a free and fast-paced language experiment with exciting artist materials. Through torn surfaces, scattered spots of color, soft or hard lines and joined parts, we build stories that move between us and the places we are (or dream of) – between our inner spaces and our outer world.

In this art camp, we embark on art with creation as a collective act. We listen, feel, experiment and build unknown languages – together.
